There are many types of non-woven fabrics, but generally they can be divided into three categories: wet-laid non-woven fabrics, dry-laid non-woven fabrics, and needle-punched non-woven fabrics.
Wet laid nonwoven fabric
Wetlaid nonwovens are produced by mixing fibers with water and then draining them onto a screen or conveyor belt to form a web. The fibers used in wet-laid nonwovens can be natural fibers, such as wood pulp, or synthetic fibers, such as polypropylene, polyester, or rayon. The resulting non-woven fabric has a soft and fluffy feel as well as good drape and absorbency. Wet-laid nonwovens are widely used in feminine hygiene products, diapers and adult incontinence products.
Dry-laid nonwovens
Drylaid nonwovens are produced through a dry process without using any water or binders (adhesives). The fibers are simply laid on top of each other and then bonded together using various techniques such as needle punching, stitch bonding or heat calendering. Drylaid nonwovens have a fluffy, fluffy texture and are very lightweight. They have good insulating properties and can be used in a variety of applications such as apparel, home décor and carpet backing.
Needle punched nonwoven fabric
Needle-punched nonwovens are produced by needling fibers into a substrate to create an entanglement and locking of the fibers. This process can be done using different types of fibers such as polypropylene, polyester, cotton, wool, fiberglass, and carbon fiber. The resulting nonwovens have a soft hand and are versatile, with applications in filter media, insulation, upholstery padding, carpet backing and other industrial products.
